Hankook Ventus R-S4
The Hankook Ventus R-S4 (Z232) stands as an Extreme Performance Summer tire designed for drivers of sports cars, sports coupes, and performance sedans who seek nearly motorsports-grade grip for track events, autocross, and drifting, all while maintaining street-drivability. As with all summer tires, the Ventus R-S4 is not intended for service, storage, or use in near- and below-freezing temperatures, snow, or icy conditions.
Hankook Ventus R-S4:
The Ventus R-S4 features an innovative high-grip compound with carbon black and silica, molded into a low-void, directional pattern. The wide continuous center rib ensures constant contact with the road, providing a stable on-center feel and immediate response to steering inputs. Massive outboard shoulder blocks deliver the expected lateral grip for high-g cornering in motorsports and performance driving, while chamfered block edges optimize pavement contact under load. Addressing wet traction, highly dispersible silica and a functionalized polymer enhance bonding within the compound matrix, and two main circumferential grooves enable efficient water flow through the contact patch, reducing the risk of hydroplaning. While the tire exhibits improved resistance to hydroplaning, drivers should exercise caution and reduce speeds in heavy rain or standing water.
The Ventus R-S4's performance is enhanced internally, with a high-modulus bead filler and sidewall reinforcement material reducing sidewall flex for immediate handling response. Supported by two wide steel belts, a two-ply casing (single layer in some sizes) is complemented by a jointless nylon cover tuned for optimal handling and tread stability. An additional reinforcement in the shoulder helps withstand the stresses of performance driving, even in high-camber situations.
Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower should gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before any flexing, such as adjusting inflation pressures, mounting on wheels, or supporting, rolling, or driving a vehicle.
Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds in Extreme Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can lead to irreversible compound cracking. Although compound cracking is not covered under warranty due to improper use or storage, tires displaying such cracking must be replaced.
